Actor Johnny Depp (57) and his ex-wife Amber Heard arrived in London on Tuesday to kick off a trial. Depp is suing the tabloid The Sun for an article alleging that he physically abused Heard (34).
The actor (“Pirates of the Caribbean”) denies this. The trial is expected to take three weeks.
Both entered the courthouse separately. Heard wore a large red cloth with white dots as a face mask. She was accompanied by her lawyers and sister. Depp came in a dark blue suit. He was wearing sunglasses and a dark cloth.
Depp and Heard met about nine years ago while filming “The Rum Diary”. The couple separated in 2016 after only 15 months of marriage and then waged a month-long war of roses. In the process, Depp's former partners Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder are also to testify by video.
The process was supposed to start last March. However, it had to be postponed due to the corona pandemic. Depp has also filed a defamation lawsuit in the United States. But he is suing there directly against his ex-wife. She had reported on her experiences of violence in an article in the Washington Post – but without naming Depp by name.
