Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg (17) has received the new Humanity Award from the Portuguese Gulbenkian Foundation. Thunberg is "one of the most remarkable people of our day" who managed to mobilize younger people to fight climate change, it says in the justification, among other things. The 17-year-old does not want to keep the prize money of one million euros.
Thunberg explained in a video on Instagram, she felt "incredibly honored" and was very grateful that she received the award. This means a lot to her and she hopes it can help her do more good for the world. The prize money of one million euros is more than she can imagine. She wants to donate this to charitable projects that fight "the climate and environmental crisis": "We are in a climate emergency" and her foundation will donate all the prize money as soon as possible "to support organizations and projects that are for a fight sustainable world, "it says in her post.
