New Delhi: In view of a ban on the once a year ‘Kanwar Yatra’, the Haridwar district management has sealed its borders with neighbouring states. Only folks having written permission from their respective district Justice of the Peace are being allowed to go into Haridwar of their cars, information company PTI reported quoting resources as pronouncing. Earlier on Monday, borders of Haridwar district have been sealed at Narson, Bhagwanpur, Chidiyapur and Saptrishi checkposts, following which loads of cars had to go back as they didn’t have the desired permission. In the wake of coronavirus pandemic, the kanwar yatra this 12 months has been cancelled. Last month, the manager ministers of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana had mentioned the topic by way of video-conference and they all agreed that the once a year kanwar yatra, which sees an enormous congregation of Shiva devotees in Haridwar, must be cancelled.
Scores of lord Shiva devotees from throughout India adopt the pilgrimage known as Kanwar yatra, on foot right through Shravan- a month within the Hindu calendar once a year. Wearing orange-coloured garments with embellished pot on their shoulders, the pilgrims discuss with Haridwar, Gaumukh adn Gangotri in Uttarakhand and Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch water of river Ganga.
