Serbian tennis professional Novak Djokovic (33) had to accept severe criticism for his specially organized invitation tournament called Adria Tour in times of the corona pandemic. After the worries came true and several participants tested positive for Covid-19, the world's number one has now become infected, as you can read on his official homepage.
According to this, his wife Jelena also became infected, while the children together were negative when they arrived in their home country Belgrade. Djokovic has so far shown no symptoms. The star had previously held an invitation tournament in Belgrade and Zadar (Croatia) and was sharply criticized for the supposedly unsafe organization. Now he is the fourth player on the Adriatic tour to test positive for the corona virus. Previously, Grigor Dimitrov (29, Bulgaria), Borna Coric (23, Croatia) and Viktor Troicki (34, Serbia) were reported as infected.
As justification for why he initiated the tournament at all, Djokovic writes: "Everything we did in the past month was done with a pure heart and the best of intentions. (…) It was born out of a philanthropic idea to everyone To provide income to people in need. " He is extremely sorry that people have been infected with the virus because of this and will now go into self-isolation for 14 days.
